The CompTIA A+ course covers four specialised areas – you\’ll have to qualify in just two sectors to be A+ competent. Because of this, most colleges only offer two of the 4 sectors. We consider that this will under prepare you – certainly you\’ll have the qualification, but training on all 4 will set you apart in your working life, where knowledge of all four will be necessary. That\’s why we believe you should train in the whole course.

Once on the CompTIA A+, you will learn how to build, fix, repair and work in antistatic conditions. Diagnostic techniques and fault finding are also on the syllabus, as is remote access.

It could be a good idea to think about adding the CompTIA Network+ training as it will enable you to work with networks, and have a more responsible working role.

Many trainers have a handy Job Placement Assistance program, designed to steer you into your first job. Often, too much is made of this feature, because it is actually not that hard for well qualified and focused men and women to find a job in the IT industry – as employers are keen to find appropriately trained staff.

You would ideally have CV and Interview advice and support though; also we would encourage all students to get their CV updated as soon as they start a course – don\’t wait till you\’ve finished your exams.

It\’s not unusual to find that you will be offered your first role whilst still on the course (occasionally right at the beginning). If your CV doesn\’t show your latest training profile (and it\’s not being looked at by employers) then you won\’t even be considered!

The top companies to help get you placed are usually specialist independent regional recruitment consultancies. As they\’re keen to place you to receive their commission, they\’re perhaps more focused on results.

To bottom line it, if you put as much hard work into finding your first IT position as into studying, you\’re not likely to experience problems. Some trainees inexplicably spend hundreds of hours on their course materials and then just stop once they\’ve passed their exams and seem to suppose that interviewers know they\’re there.

Beware of putting too much emphasis, as many people do, on the certification itself. Training for training\’s sake is generally pointless; you\’re training to become commercially employable. You need to remain focused on where you want to go.

Never let yourself become one of those unfortunate people who choose a training program that seems \’fun\’ or \’interesting\’ – only to end up with a qualification for an unrewarding career path.

Make sure you investigate what your attitude is towards career progression and earning potential, and if you\’re ambitious or not. It\’s vital to know what will be expected of you, what particular qualifications are required and in what way you can develop commercial experience.

Take advice from an experienced advisor, even if you have to pay a small fee – as it\’s a lot cheaper and safer to find out at the start if you\’ve chosen correctly, rather than find out after several years of study that the job you\’ve chosen is not for you and have to return to the start of another program.

Considering how a program is \’delivered\’ to you is often missed by many students. How many stages do they break the program into? What is the order and at what speed is it delivered?

Usually, you\’ll join a programme staged over 2 or 3 years and receive a module at a time. This sounds logical on one level, until you consider this:

Maybe the order of study insisted on by the company won\’t suit you. It may be difficult to get through every element inside of their particular timetable?

For future safety and flexibility, many trainees now want to insist that all study materials are delivered immediately, and not in stages. That means it\’s down to you in what order and how fast or slow you\’d like to work.

It\’s likely that you\’ve always enjoyed practical work – a \’hands-on\’ individual. Typically, the trial of reading reference books and manuals can be just about bared when essential, but you\’d hate it. You should use video and multimedia based materials if you\’d really rather not use books.

Many studies have proved that memory is aided when we receive multi-sensorial input, and we take action to use what we\’ve learned.

Interactive full motion video involving demonstration and virtual lab\’s will beat books every time. And you\’ll find them fun and interesting.

It would be silly not to view a small selection of training examples before you purchase a course. You should expect video tutorials, instructor demo\’s and audio-visual elements backed up by interactive lab\’s.

Pick CD and DVD ROM based physical training media every time. This then avoids all the potential pitfalls with broadband \’downtime\’ or slow-speeds.

Should you be considering getting into a web design team, Adobe Dreamweaver training is vital for getting relevant certifications that are recognised around the world.

In order to use Dreamweaver professionally in web design, an in-depth understanding of the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite (which incorporates Flash and Action Script) is in our opinion essential. With this knowledge, you can go onto become either an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) or Adobe Certified Professional (ACP).

To establish yourself as a full web professional however, you\’ll have to get more diverse knowledge. You will need to learn certain programming skills like PHP, HTML, and MySQL. A working knowledge of E-Commerce and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) will help when talking to employers.

A number of trainees are under the impression that the state educational path is still the most effective. So why then are commercial certificates beginning to overtake it?

As we require increasingly more effective technological know-how, the IT sector has of necessity moved to the specialised core-skills learning only available through the vendors themselves – that is companies like CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA. Often this saves time and money for the student.

Essentially, students are simply taught the necessary specifics in depth. It\’s not quite as straightforward as that, but the most important function is always to master the precisely demanded skill-sets (alongside some required background) – without trying to cram in every other area (as academia often does).

It\’s a bit like the TV advert: \’It does what it says on the label\’. All an employer has to do is know what they\’re looking for, and then match up the appropriate exam numbers as a requirement. They\’ll know then that all applicants can do what they need.

Ignore a salesperson who pushes one particular program without a thorough investigation to assess your abilities and level of experience. Always check they have access to a large product range from which they could give you an appropriate solution.

An important point to note is that, if you\’ve got any qualifications that are related, then it\’s not unreasonable to expect to commence studying further along than a student who\’s starting from scratch.

If you\’re a new trainee embarking on IT studies for the first time, it can be helpful to ease in gradually, beginning with user-skills and software training first. Usually this is packaged with most training packages.

Many individuals don\’t comprehend what information technology can do for us. It is ground-breaking, exciting, and puts you at the fore-front of developments in technology that will change our world over the next few decades.

We\’re only just starting to scrape the surface of how technology will define our world. Computers and the web will profoundly change how we view and interact with the rest of the world over the next few years.

The money in IT isn\’t to be sniffed at also – the average salary over this country as a whole for a typical IT worker is a lot greater than in the rest of the economy. It\’s a good bet you\’ll bring in a much better deal than you would in most other jobs.

The good news is there\’s a lot more room for IT sector growth in the UK. The market sector continues to develop quickly, and as we have a skills gap that means we only typically have three IT workers for every four jobs it\’s highly unlikely that it will even slow down for a good while yet.

How can job security truly exist anywhere now? In the UK for example, with industry changing its mind on a day-to-day basis, it certainly appears not.

Whereas a quickly growing market-place, with a constant demand for staff (as there is a big shortfall of commercially certified staff), opens the possibility of true job security.

The computer industry skills-gap across the country currently stands at around twenty six percent, as noted by a recent e-Skills survey. Basically, we can\’t properly place more than just three out of every 4 jobs in the computing industry.

This alarming concept underpins the requirement for more appropriately accredited computing professionals in the United Kingdom.

Unquestionably, it really is a fabulous time to train for the computer industry.

When you decide upon a computer training program it is very important that the certification you will gain is up to date with commercial requirements. Additionally, you should make sure that the subject is right for you, your personality and abilities.

Training ranges from Microsoft User Skills up to career training for Networking, Programming, Databases and Web Design. There is so much choice and so it’s probably best to talk through your options with an experienced advisor prior to deciding which way to go: don’t make a guess and learn about a subject for a job you’d actually hate!

Due to the vast number of well priced, easily understood training programs and help, you should inevitably find a course that will get you into industry.

The perhaps intimidating chore of finding your first IT job is often eased by some companies, via a Job Placement Assistance programme. Don’t get overly impressed with this service – it isn’t unusual for training companies to make too much of it. The fact of the matter is, the huge shortage of staff in this country is why employers will be interested in you.

You would ideally have help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews though; and we’d recommend everybody to work on polishing up their CV right at the beginning of their training – don’t put it off for when you’re ready to start work.

It’s not unusual to find that you’ll land your first role while still studying (even in the early stages). If your CV doesn’t say what you’re learning – or it’s not getting in front of interviewers, then you don’t stand a chance!

The top companies to help you find a job are normally local IT focused employment agencies. As they will get paid by the employer when they’ve placed you, they’ll work that much harder to get a result.

A good number of people, so it seems, put a great deal of effort into their studies (for years sometimes), and just give up when it comes to attempting to secure their first job. Introduce yourself… Work hard to get in front of employers. Don’t think a job’s just going to jump out in front of you.

Students often end up having issues because of a single training area which is often not even considered: The method used to ‘segment’ the courseware before being sent out to you.

Usually, you will purchase a course requiring 1-3 years study and receive a module at a time. This may seem sensible until you think about these factors:

Students often discover that the company’s ‘standard’ path of training is not what they would prefer. It’s often the case that it’s more expedient to use an alternative order of study. And what if you don’t get to the end within their exact timetable?

To be in the best situation you would have all the learning modules posted to your home before you even start; every single thing! This prevents any future issues from rising that will affect your capacity to get everything done.

Working on progressive developments in new technology gives you the best job satisfaction ever. Your actions are instrumental in impacting progress around the world.

Technological changes and communication through the web is going to radically affect the way we live our lives over the coming years; incredibly so.

Should receiving a good salary be high on your scale of wants, then you will be pleasantly surprised to hear that the regular income of a typical IT worker is noticeably better than salaries in much of the rest of industry.

It’s no secret that there is a substantial national need for certified IT specialists. In addition, with the marketplace continuing to expand, it appears there’s going to be for the significant future.

Authorised exam simulation and preparation packages are vital – and absolutely ought to be offered by your course provider.

Make sure that your practice exams haven’t just got questions from the right areas, but additionally ask them in the exact format that the real exams will structure them. This really messes up people if the phraseology and format is completely different.

For many reasons, it is really important to ensure that you are completely prepared for the real exam prior to doing it. Going over mock-up exams will help to boost your attitude and will avoid you getting frustrated with wasted exam attempts.

by Scott Edwards

Just because we want to lose weight doesn’t mean that we want to be ostracized from society. This is particularly an issue if we happen to be the family chef; nibbling our own lightweight morsels whilst the aroma of ‘real food’ wafts under our nostrils! This can be frustrating, so let’s look at how we can integrate our weight loss program into regular family meals.

First off we need to tackle the amount we eat. Whatever food we consume, if we take in less of it we’ll lose weight. It’s pleasing to see a plateful of food at the beginning of our meal – so eat from one that’s smaller than everyone else’s. Eat your food very slowly, chewing every morsel at least twenty times before swallowing. You won’t always finish your meal ahead of the others then, but you will feel more sated.

Most family meals can be eaten when you’re dieting, if you restrict the amount of fat and carbohydrate on your plate. Make up for it with lots of vegetables. And avoid the temptation of crusty bread! For seconds, think carefully before you indulge yourself. A small baked apple is fine – simply leave out the custard or cream.

On the other hand, you can make slimmer’s meals for everyone. No-one need suspect they’re eating a low-cal meals with some of the recipes you can use. Use lemon juice, garlic and fresh herbs for a really scrummy pasta dish. Tinned tomatoes are a great base for the sauce, and no oil is needed if you stir in a little low fat creme fraiche before serving.

When you’re shopping for food, always pick out lean cuts of meat. Remember also that fish can be a lower fat alternative. Whatever the rest of your family weigh, it’s still advantageous for them as well to eat lean meat. Roast chicken is a good all-rounder, just make sure you remove any skin and eat breast meat where possible. Select potatoes that have a naturally creamier texture, such as Vivaldi or Maris Piper. Then you can feel fulfilled without loading them with butter.

Whole wheat or oats are the best cereals to buy – and choose ones that don’t have any additional sugar. Leave cereal bars alone too. Even these have far too many calories for the amount of food you’re eating. There are also many ‘hidden’ cals in a lot of drinks. If you drink cola or other sodas, always buy the diet varieties.

Wine and beer can be very fattening, so try to limit it where possible. Tomato juice with Worcestershire sauce and ice has a good kick and makes a change. As apple juice is particularly strong in flavour, water it down half and half and serve it in a wine glass for more sophistication!

Clearly, we can’t keep consuming the same things and expect to drop the weight. Although the odd bit of fine-tuning can work wonders to help things along.

When looking into health issues relating to weight, medics take note of our Body Mass Index. Our reading should come in somewhere in the region of top teens to mid-twenties. Anything above that figure indicates that we’re overweight. What’s more if we take that figure over thirty we’re defined as obese – over forty and the definition is morbidly obese.

A simple calculation can be done to work out your BMI. Using metric readings, take your current weight and height. Take your metric height and square it. Then divide the answer by how many kilos you weigh.

So your figures might look something like this: You’re 1.45m tall (1.45 x 1.45 = 2.10). Your weight is 68 kilograms (68 / 2.10 = 32.38). Clearly that result shows some different eating and exercise habits are needed, as a figure over 30 is categorised as obese.

We can’t lose weight if we continue to consume foods highly saturated in fats and sugars (save for the odd treat now and again!). We can lose weight by eating more healthily, and eating less. Then the fat that’s previously entered our system will be converted into energy.

Stay away from eating programs that sound too good to be true! They’re usually so restrictive and unsatisfactory that you can’t maintain them for long. Any slimming regime that only allows one and a half thousand calories a day is considered a crash diet. Quick-fix diets can be a vicious cycle of drastic weight loss followed by weight gain.

It takes re-education and time to achieve lasting results. Cut back your calorie consumption to 75 percent of what you eat now, and you should see a few pounds come off every month. So not the un-realistic promises fed to you from the instant remedy brigade, but a real solution to help you stay out of the danger zones.

Foods which contain the most calories tend to have a high fat content. Lower your intake of saturated fat then, and you achieve a noticeable reduction in calories. Substitute fat with whole grains, vegetables and fruit. It’s amazing how quickly you’ll start to notice improvements in your health.

It may seem like a good idea to skip a meal, but it isn’t. You’ll probably end up snacking more when the hunger-pangs hit hard! The opposite is in fact more appropriate for weight loss. Starving yourself actually makes it more difficult to lose weight. Your metabolic rate (which affects your body’s ability to lose weight) is assisted when you nourish yourself little and often.

Weight Reduction Is Massive… It’s essential to grasp that the business of slimming is exactly that – a very profitable market. Several billion dollars of diet products are purchased every year.

So How Extensive Is Obesity? The fact that you’re looking at this article probably means you have a problem with weight. Amazingly, over two-thirds of the US populace are classed as needing weight loss. In other words, 210,000,000… And in fact the figure hovers around 60 per cent in many other places. This can’t go on.

It’s thought that in Britain alone, around one quarter of over 18′s are obese, which equates to a minimum of thirty to forty pounds overweight. Future predictions look even worse… The current figure of 25 percent could reach 90 percent by 2050.

And yet why should it be that way? No-one wants this trend to continue. Sensible dietary advice is the key – not expensive products that line the pockets of big business.

It’s a well known fact that obesity can lead to many major problems – Type two diabetes; mental health problems; high blood pressure; heart disease & heart failure; cancer; liver disease; osteoarthritis and high cholesterol. This illustrates that we don’t just need to lose weight so that we can look more attractive.

Fat loss isn’t about getting to size zero – you should be aiming for a weight that’s good for your health. The right weight for one person isn’t necessarily the right one for someone else. We all need to be able to maintain a certain weight when we’ve reached it.

When we have a family, we need to consider how they can learn to eat well. It’s our responsibility as the adults in the house to help our children adopt sensible habits where diet is concerned. The odds are on that our children will grow to be obese if we don’t change things now. Who wants to be that kind of benefactor?

So we have to understand the basics about nutrition – it’s just as important to know what’s good for us as it is to know what’s bad. It’s only when we’ve got a handle on healthy eating ourselves that we can teach it to others. Let’s be honest, our children’s children could escape obesity if we put the right habits into the family today.

Our friendships can have quite an influence on how we live our lives. There’s a tangible link between the way we behave and the men and women we have friendships with. And yet we’re likely to have presumed this commonality concerned our likes and dislikes – for example we enjoy the same musical tastes as our friends, or hold similar political views.

However, it now seems that we also have weight challenges in common with those we associate with. The amount we eat is closely related to how much our best friends eat. An interesting study looking at how young people eat found that oversized children eat more when in the company of other oversized friends.

Everyone in the group actually devoured more when they were in the company of friends, regardless of their size. But pairing up overweight friends led to the biggest consumption of all. The study was undertaken by researchers from the State University of New York at Buffalo. It highlighted the role friends play in influencing how much youngsters eat.

Frankly, having more relaxed habits when with friends is not a big surprise. Adults would no doubt have demonstrated the same characteristics. It’s possible however that in addition, we assume friends will give their consent. We’re inclined to unconsciously monitor our behaviour in relation to their reaction to it.

Young people of all sizes were studied for forty five minutes. A number were teamed up with strangers, and a number with friends. Each pair had a mix of healthy and snack-type food, and entertainment.

All the ones who teamed up with a friend ate a larger amount than the rest. However it was the pairs who were both overweight who consumed the most in total. And the variations were considerable, as shown below.

Nearly seven hundred and fifty calories per person was consumed by the larger pairs of friends. Heavy kids with standard weight chums ate just under 450 cals, and standard weight kids ate approx 500 cals whatever weight their mate was. This influence extends to smoking and drinking as well with young teens.

A child’s social network then is significant in determining their eating habits. What this means is kids can be influenced to eat less as well as more. Hence the necessity to educate the young.

Mental mind pictures spring into our head when we think of our ideal life scenario. Maybe we see a more prestigious home or a stylish vehicle in our mind’s eye. Nearly every one of us will picture ourselves as slimmer and more attractive, with stylish clothes to wear.

Whiling away such thoughts is useful. Knowing what we want to have is essential to determining how our lives might be. Unless we have a vision of how things will look when we’ve reached the lofty heights of our personal success, we’ve little chance of ever getting there.

However, we have to be prepared to make some changes, prior to having all these brilliant things. As Albert Einstein said, “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.” And so, continue doing what you’re doing right now, and you’ll continue having what you’ve always had.

For big leaps forward in what we have, we need to make huge changes not only to the way we do things, but also (more importantly) to the way we think. So the right thought process and effort comes first, to achieve the results we want to have. We’re familiar with the elementary truth that to get, we first have to give. But the rewards we want won’t just turn up purely from doing the work.

To realise the things we want in our lives, we have to behave in a manner that suggests our goals are a done deal! If the objective is to drop four dress sizes in twelve months, then for a time we have to prioritise an exercise routine and pay attention to what we eat.

Working out each day has to come before meeting up with friends. The success mind-set says there’ll be lots more time for leisure later on (and more energy to enjoy it!) if the effort is put in first. A healthy attitude to dieting makes the slimming process easier, and brings results much faster.

We don’t succeed because we’re lucky! Maintaining a solid approach is an essential foundation to guard against the doubts and criticisms we may have to endure.

Spending time reading books or watching films of how others achieved their goals can help. We come across the same story time after time; their attitude and self-image is what created the results. By focusing on becoming who we need to be, we’ll enjoy the exertions we have to do more and receive the things we want to have so much faster.
