New York Mets Want To Return To Glory In 2010

When the season started last year, every expert in the game had the New York Mets giving the Phillies everything that they could handle. Even though the Phillies were the champs, they were still not picked to beat out the Mets for the division. Then the season started, Philly got off to a hot start and never looked back.
It is very likely that everyone will have the Mets, Phillies and Atlanta very close in the National League East. This will be a hotly contested division and if the Mets are playing solid baseball, they have every reason to believe that the division will be theirs. The fans are going to be treated to some incredible baseball games this summer.
The Mets did not really get involved in the high priced bidding wars that other teams did, but they really did not have to do that. They have a good core of players, they just need to play. It all starts with the rotation that they will throw out there every night. Santana anchors a solid rotation and the team will only need about 4 runs anytime that he takes the mound to snag a win.
Fernando Nieve is going to get his shot this year and fans have every right to be excited about him. He has the talent to one day be an Ace and should rack up some serious wins in the bottom half of the rotation. If he is healthy and pitches to his potential, there should be at least 15 wins in the season for him.
David Wright is the star on the team with the bat and will once again hold down third base. If anyone ever wanted to look at a model of consistency, Wright is the perfect example. Fans are pretty much guaranteed that he will hit about .305 and knock out about 25-30 home runs. While that total did dip a bit last season, we expect him to get back the power stroke in 2010.
If there is one team that is set up in the East to get off to a hot start, it is the Mets. They are playing a few of the doormats of the league and to not come out of April with a significant amount of wins would be a crime. Add in the fact that they are home for all but 7 of their games in April and it could lead to an incredible start for them.
Philadelphia will be the first real test of the season for the Mets and that is not until the very last game of April. They need to use the home schedule to their benefit and build up a big lead to let Philly know that they are back and mean business in 2010.
