NBA is the acronym for National Basketball Association. It is probably the most dynamic and well-liked basketball association in the world. One of the individuals who can take most of the credit for this is Michael Jordan who worked tirelessly on its behalf in the 1980′s and 1990′s.

The NBA is the leading professional, male basketball league of north America, which includes the USA and Canada. The NBA has the greatest players, pays the highest salaries and has the highest degree of competition. At the moment there are thirty teams competing in the NBA, which are located in both Canada and the USA.

The NBA started life as the Basketball Association of America or BAA in 1946. It was established in order to organize the top professional teams, to publicize them and to raise their popularity.. The first BBA game was played between the Toronto Huskies and the New York Knickerbockers in Toronto. It changed its name to NBA in 1949.

The NBA grew steadily and attracted the best basketball players in the world. In the early days there were such names as George Mikan – ‘the First Big Man’; Bob Cousey and Bill Russell Other great stars that followed were: Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Julius Erving, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.

Many of the top players came from the United States, but not all. Some were international players. Such players include players like: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Leandro Barbosa, Paul Gasol, Manu Ginobili and Dirk Nowitzki.

Others include Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs; Peja Stojakovic a Serb who won awards at home before moving to north America and the Russian, Andrei Kirilenko who was known as the AK-47. He also won European awards before moving to the States.

Yet other famous international players are Yao Ming who was selected for the Houston Rockets in 2002 and Andrea Bargnini who was selected to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2006.

The teams in the NBA are organized into two conferences with three divisions in each. 29 of these teams are located in the United States and one in Canada.

The Eastern Conference consists of the Atlantic Division, the Central Division and the Southeast Division.

The Atlantic Division has: the Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors.

The Central Division has:the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks.

The Southeast boasts: the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and the Washington Wizards.

The Western Conference consists of the Northwest Division, the Pacific Division and the Southwest Division.

The Northwest Division has:the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, NBA Oklahoma City, Portland Trailblazers, and Utah Jazz.

The Pacific Division has the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings.

The Southwest Division has: the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets and San Antonio Spurs.

The NBA basketball league can now be watched all around the world by subscription on the Internet, although the Internet connection speed is just too slow in some countries to make it worthwhile.

Looking for workouts that helps to increase your vertical jump fast ? Well, if you understanding the core principles behind these vertical jump workouts, then you will be able to see some incredible gains in a very short period of time.

In fact, you need to understand that for whichever jump training that you pick or choose, note that it has to focus on 2 things.. and that is speed, and strength.

Obviously, if you want to jump higher and increase your verticals, you need power in your legs… and the formula for power is = Strength x Speed = Power.

Power is what we want when it comes to vertical jump training. That is what we want to gain from it and nothing else. In short, in order to maximize your gains when it comes to jump training, you want to focus on the intensity of the workouts… as this is the only way that power is built.

Here are 2 vertical jump workouts that helps you to achieve power in your jump:

1) Medicine Ball Toss: Not many people knows about this training.. but yet, it is one of the best training to actually add a few extra inches into your jump by injecting power into your legs and at the same, improve your swing and jumping form.

In order to make full use of this workout, again.. remember that intensity is what we will be focusing on. This includes the weight of the medicine ball, the swing.. as well as the final push off at the end of the swing.

2) Alternate Leg Rockets: Now.. I know that some of us are concern about the area available for the medicine ball toss workout. Still, there are always alternatives around and one such as the alternate leg rockets is one of them… a workout that add massive power into your single leg take off.

In order to reap the maximum benefits and jump power out of this workout, again.. remember.. intensity. When you are tired and can’t get the best out of your “push off”, stop. We are not training for endurance nor are we training our stamina. Instead.. we are focusing on adding take off power. So make sure that each repetition is at the height of your intensity level.

If you want to see an increase in your vertical jump, try these 2 workouts… as one of them is for static take off and the other, single leg take off. If you do them correctly, ie, focusing on the intensity, then you will see a great improvement in your jump power.

When one plans on making NBA playoff predictions, one may want to take several factors into consideration. For, in order to make the most accurate predictions possible, one must consider several factors. For example, how many games such a team won and lost during the season.

For, in doing so, one can get a clear view of which players are seasoned players and those who are rookies. In addition, one can often compare such statistics between the current playoff season and regular season to see which players have grown and any which may grown weak over time. After which, one can then base such predictions on the information which one has accumulated.

However, while it may be tempting to want to predict that a favorite team is going to win the championship, or a specific player become the MVP, one may want to take such enthusiasm game by game. For, the playoffs are often filled with surprises and upsets. Of course, since the best teams in the NBA are vowing for the one spot, it is understandably so.

However, such teams have also been known to overcome a number of obstacles. As such, even if a team loses a few games in the beginning of a 7 game playoff series, such team can still go on to win the championship. For, more than one well known team has done so in the past.

As such, one may also want to compare current playoff game statistics against regular season numbers. For, in doing so, one can see if players have developed and who the strongest and weakest players appear to be on various teams. Of course, just because one may not have the best statistics does not mean that one can not be a great contributor when it comes to a playoff game win or loss.

Although, since the best players most often progress more rapidly, unless both players and team have outstanding statistics, one is most likely not going to make it past the first round. However, when a team and all members have excellent statistics, such team can often be found in the finals. As such, whether one is eliminated in the beginning, or still playing in the finals, most likely such team has experienced growth throughout the current season.

To this end, if one has a favorite team, one may want to be cautious about making NBA playoff predictions based on such favoritism alone. In fact, one may want to take some time to read up on a variety of player and game statistics before making any such predictions. For, in doing so, one has a better chance of beating the odds on such predictions than otherwise.

We are the best online provider of NBA playoff predictions. All our NBA predictions are carefully selected by our team of experts.

The New Orleans Hornets got some good news regarding injured point guard Chris Paul on Wednesday. Paul will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Thursday, and the diagnosis is favorable for a return before the playoffs. Paul suffered a partially torn meniscus in a game against Golden State last week. Preliminary diagnoses suggested that he’d be out of action one to two months.

Paul will have surgery in Pensacola, Florida with Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, Alabama performing the procedure. Andrews is considered among the best in the world at treating sports related injuries, and is considered especially effective at treating knee and ligament injuries. Andrews has worked on a ‘who’s who’ of professional athletes from pro wrestler Ric Flair to New England Patriots’ QB Tom Brady.

Hornets’ coach and GM Jeff Bower sounded relatively upbeat in discussing Paul’s procedure on Wednesday:

“We are anticipating a very successful process. We look forward to his return to action at some point later on. The time frame will be determined after the surgery. I won’t speculate on that.Obviously you never want to be in this position to replace a guard like Chris Paul in the middle of the season. We want to continue to take advantage of the talent and skills that Darren [Collison] and Marcus [Thornton] have shown over the course of this season. We’re encouraged with the play of our current group and will continue to monitor that. We feel confident in their capabilities.”

Paul originally hurt his knee in a game against Golden State last Wednesday and then re-injured it on Friday night against the Chicago Bulls. He sat out Saturday’s game against Memphis. Paul averages a team-high 20.4 points and an NBA-best 11.2 assists. Darren Collison has taken over his spot in the starting lineup and has played well, including a Hornets’ rookie record 18 assists to go along with 17 points in a win over Memphis this past weekend. After the victory, Collison stressed the importance of maintaining team continuity:

“It’s nothing I haven’t seen before. We’ve been jelling with Chris, and without him I don’t think it’s going to stop us.”

New Orleans lost to Phoenix on Monday night but will play five of their next 7 games at home. It’s not a particularly easy schedule, however, with visits from improving Oklahoma City as well as Boston and Utah. The two road games are against NBA East playoff bound teams in Charlotte and Orlando, so the Hornets will have the mettle of Collison and the rest of the team tested early in Paul’s absence.

Carmello Anthony scored 41 points and the Denver Nuggets used a second half comeback to give the Portland Trailblazers a rare 97-94 loss at their Rose Garden Arena home venue on Thursday night. The Blazers held a 67-62 lead heading into the final quarter but for the second time in as many games had trouble putting their opponent away. Brandon Roy led Portland with 30 points, and Greg Oden was the high rebounder for the home team with 9 boards.

NBA pointspread players who took Denver as +8 road underdogs enjoyed their outright victory and the ensuing payday. The Nuggets have covered the number in both of their victories this season, while Portland evened their ATS mark at 1-1. The’1 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 200.

After the game, Anthony was happier about the victory than his personal offensive outburst:

“We came out here and stole the win. It wasn’t just an important win. It was a battle.”

Anthony made 7 of 9 shots from the floor and 9 of 10 free throws in the decisive fourth quarter run:

“My shots were going in. I was trying to attack. I got to the rim and the foul line.”

Portland’s Greg Oden was taking the loss hard, as he missed a couple of late game free throws that could have given the Blazers a lead:

“This is a tough one. I definitely stepped up there with confidence thinking I was going to hit both and it didn’t go that way. I put this loss on me. I need to step up and make those.”

Team leader Brandon Roy said that he’d give the Blazers’ big man a pep talk:

“The biggest thing is to let go. We all miss shots, you’ve got to forget about it.”

Roy also added that the choppy pace of the game with a lot of fouls called benefitted Denver playing in back-to-back games:

“I think it benefited them a bit more coming off a back-to-back. They were tired but anytime you slow the game down that much, it gives them a chance to recover.”

The Blazers will now head to Texas for a rematch against the Houston Rockets. Portland beat the Rockets to open their NBA season. They’ll play at Oklahoma City on Sunday before returning home for a game at The Rose Garden against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. Denver will head back to ‘The Mile High City’ for a game against Memphis on Sunday before an east coast road trip with stops in Indiana and New Jersey early next week.

Veteran point guard Jason Williams”nicknamed White Chocolate earlier in his career for his flamboyant play”is returning to the NBA after a season away from basketball. Williams announced that hes re-entering the league this season, and will do so in an Orlando Magic uniform.

Williams signed a one year NBA contract to play for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2008, but walked away from it without playing a game wanting to spend time with his wife and family. His attempt to be reinstated late in the season was rebuffed by the NBA, and he ended up sitting out the entire campaign.

When the Clippers relinquished their rights to Williams earlier this summer, he became an unrestricted free agent. Ultimately, he settled on Orlando due to its proximity to his home in nearby Isleworth, Florida and the role the Magic wanted him to play on a championship contender. Magic General Manager Otis Smith provided these comments on the signing:

“Jason provides depth and leadership to our backcourt. He is a veteran point guard that knows what it takes to help us reach our ultimate goal.”

When asked to reflect on his NBA and college career”marked by several suspensions and countless other controversies”Williams sounded a philosophical tone:

“Let me tell you this: If I could go all the way back [to the beginning], I wouldn’t do a damn thing different. I know I messed up here and there along the way, but those things I didn’t do right helped me become the person I am now.”

Williams played a crucial backup role during the Miami Heats 2005-2006 NBA championship run, and will be expected to play a similar function as the Magic try to get over the hump and unseat the reigning NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. Theyre expected to face a tough test in their own conference, with Cleveland, Miami and Boston all having upgraded their lineups during the offseason.

The Cleveland Cavaliers finished the NBA’s regular season with the league’s best record, and LeBron James won the Most Valuable Player award in the process. Despite this success, the Cavs will be watching the rest of the NBA playoffs on TV. Cleveland was eliminated by the Boston Celtics on Thursday night, losing game six by a final score of 94-85. Boston will now face the Orlando Magic for the right to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.

The Cavs had won two of the first three games before the Celtics rebounded to win the last three en route to the series victory. In game six, Boston was priced as a -1′ point NBA betting favorite and easily covered the pointspread. The 179 combined points scored went well UNDER the posted total of 194. Heading into Game 6, Cleveland had taken the money in 8 of the last 12 games held at Boston’s TD BankNorth Garden although Boston had won 10 of 12 outright.

LeBron James didn’t go down without a fight, however, as he put up a ‘triple double’ consisting of 27 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists. Mo Williams added 22 points, but the Cavs received little production from the rest of the roster. For the game, the Celtics’ bench outscored their Cleveland counterparts 24-13.

Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with 22 points and 12 rebounds, and afterward credited his team’s experience:

“Winning is gratifying. You’re playing the best team in basketball; the challenge is there; you don’t have to dress it up. One thing we don’t lack is confidence. We’re a veteran team and we understand when it’s time to lock in as a group. I think we did just that. I think the experience is taking over.”

LeBron, meanwhile, was in a state of shock:

“The fact that it’s over right now is definitely a surprise to me. A friend of mine told me, ‘I guess you’ve got to go through a lot of nightmares before you realize your dream.’ That’s what’s going on for me individually right now.”

LeBron is eligible to opt out of his contract this summer and there’s no shortage of teams that would love to have him. For now, he’s keeping his cards close to the vest:

“I want to win. That’s my only thing, my only concern. I’ve always prided myself — it’s all about winning for me and I think the Cavs are committed to doing that. But at the same time, I’ve given myself options to this point. Me and my team, we have a game plan that we’ll execute and we’ll see where we’re at.”

The Celtics will now face the Orlando Magic, who have rampaged through the first two rounds of the playoffs. Orlando’s conference semifinal sweep of the Atlanta Hawks was the most dominating 4 game series victory in NBA history, with an average per game margin of victory of 25.2 points. The winner will then advance to the NBA Finals.

The Portland Trailblazers have needed a big inside presence ever since starting center Greg Oden and backup Joel Pryzbilla went down with season ending injuries. They finally found one on Tuesday as they acquired veteran Marcus Canby from the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers received forward Travis Outlaw and guard Steve Blake. Canby is expected to make his debut in a Blazers\’ uniform on Friday when Portland hosts the Boston Celtics.

The transaction also served to answer the nagging question about Portland\’s point guard situation. Steve Blake and Andre Miller have shared time running the offense, but Blazers\’ management apparently felt that Miller was a better fit with superstar shooting guard Brandon Roy. Ironically, until Miller picked up a lot of the offense slack lately with Roy on the shelf with a hamstring injury the presumption was that he\’d be the one heading elsewhere as the NBA trade deadline approached.

All three players involved are in the final year of their current contract, meaning that barring anything unforeseen Canby\’s career in Portland will probably last only 23 games plus the playoffs. Outlaw and Blake may or may not fit into the Clippers longterm plans-assuming that one of the NBA\’s most consistently underachieving teams actually has \’longterm plans\’ in the first place.

Canby was introduced to the Rose Garden crowd during Portland\’s rout of his old team, the LA Clippers receiving a standing ovation. Earlier, he\’d indicated that he was excited to be going to the Blazers:

\”I think it\’s a great situation for myself. It\’s a first-class organization that really takes care of their own. I hope I can bring my knowledge of the game, and blend in these last 27 games. I\’m really excited to be here.\”

He talked about the strange situation of actually being in Portland when the trade went down:

\”I only brought one change of clothes. It\’s been a real rough, rough 24 hours for me, but real exciting at the same time.\”

Canby also said that he\’s interesting in staying in \’Rip City\’ longterm:

\”Hopefully things work out for myself and work out for the team. Hopefully they have plans for me in the long term.\”

Portland GM Kevin Pritchard added:

\”We are very excited to bring an experienced big man of Marcus\’ caliber to the team and we feel he\’ll help us a great deal down the stretch run. He\’s a fierce competitor and has been one of the league\’s best defensive players for quite some time.\”

The 35 year old Canby has long been considered one of the NBA\’s best defensive big men. Despite playing on a LA Clippers team well off the playoff pace in the Western Conference, he\’s second in the league in rebounds with 12.1 per game.

The NBA All Star game was played without a couple of high profile participants this year as the Los Angeles Lakers\’ Kobe Bryant and Philadelphia 76ers\’ Allen Iverson would not play due to injury. Kobe and \’AI\’ were the latest in a string of injuries to All Star players that also claimed Portland\’s Brandon Roy and New Orleans\’ Chris Paul. The NBA has been much more strict about attendance at the All Star game since a number of players skipped out with dubious injuries.

Kobe Bryant has been plagued with minor injuries all year, but missed the Lakers\’ last three games prior to the All Star contest due to an ankle sprain. Los Angeles is hopeful that by not playing in the game that Kobe will be able to return to action immediately after play resumes following the All Star break. Bryant did travel to Dallas to participate in All Star game festivities.

Iverson has missed Philadelphia\’s past five games due to an illness suffered by one of his young children. Unlike Kobe, Iverson wasn\’t expected to be in Dallas this weekend due to the nature of his situation. It\’s debatable that Iverson deserved an All Star game nod in the first place. He quickly wore out his welcome in Memphis to start the year, and eventually landed back in Philadelphia where he\’s averaged 14.4 points per game since his return. He was voted in to the starting lineup by NBA fans, and this renewed calls from the media to revise the procedure for selecting All Star game participants. Many would be pleased if the fans were taken out of the process of selecting the starting lineup altogether.

Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks was chosen to replace Bryant in the Western Conference lineup, while New York\’s David Lee was the East\’s fill in for Iverson. The West already had two \’fill ins\’ named to their roster as Denver\’s Chauncy Billups and the LA Clippers\’ Chris Kaman took the place of Chris Paul and Brandon Roy respectively.

NBA betting enthusiasts had several options on the menu beginning with the annual \’rookies vs. sophomores\’ game on Saturday. The Sophomores were a -12 point favorite with the total set at 245\’ but were crushed by the rookie team. As usual, defense was in short supply at both the \’rookie v. sophomores\’ game and the actual All Star event.

In one of the stranger front office shakeups in recent NBA history, the Los Angeles Clippers have \’relieved\’ Mike Dunleavy of his head coaching duties effective immediately. He\’ll remain on board as the Clippers\’ general manager, and both he and the team cited the demands of the forthcoming trade deadline and free agent market as a catalyst for the change.

Not surprisingly, there is much speculation as to the back story behind the move. Some with knowledge of the situation suggest that Clippers\’ owner Donald Sterling wanted to fire Dunleavy altogether, but relented due to the $5 million the team will owe him in the final year of his contract next year. More recently, a bizarre rumor has been circulating that Sterling has approached Isiah Thomas about taking over Dunleavy\’s coaching position and becoming team president.

Dunleavy issued this statement, playing along with the team\’s insistence that the decision to give up coaching was \’mutual\’:

\”I\’ve come to the conclusion that this is the ideal time for me to direct my efforts toward the many personnel opportunities that lie before us, such as the trade market, the draft and the free-agent process. We fully expect to be active and productive on all those fronts.\”

Team President Andy Roeser sounded a similar tone:

\”We fully agree with Mike that this is the right time to make this change. It just seems clear that the team needs a fresh voice and we hope that our players will respond in a positive way.As we approach the trade deadline, the NBA draft and the upcoming free-agent period, our team is very well positioned from a salary-cap standpoint. Mike\’s experienced input will be vitally important as we continue to develop our young talented nucleus and shape our team\’s future.\”

Dunleavy\’s agent Warren LeGarie continued the same theme:

\”This is something we\’ve been contemplating for some time. There\’s a shelf life to coaching sometimes. So you constantly have to keep measuring whether [the team\'s inconsistency] is because of injuries, because of you, or something else. And at some point you have to make a judgment call about what\’s best for the team, and that\’s what Mike did.\”

The Clippers have lost 7 of their last 10 games to fall to 21-29 on the year. They\’re 17 games behind the Western Conference leading Los Angeles Lakers and 8 games out of the final playoff spot. The schedule won\’t get any easier for the Clippers after the break as they head to Portland\’s Rose Garden Arena to take on the Blazers.
