A chiropractor works on the patients’ health problems in the musculoskeletal system. In addition, he identifies and works on the effects of those issues on his patients’ nervous system.

The practitioner uses a particular method of working on numerous disorders, and such method is referred to as the chiropractic treatment. The general health of the patient is the primary concentration in this method. Its practitioners provide natural, drugless, nonsurgical health treatments, counting on the body’s natural capabilities to heal by itself.

This natural treatment is usually done through spinal manipulation. But, other practitioners perform a few other methods like the following: heat therapy, massage, using electric current, ultrasound, water, and light.

Stages To Undergo Prior To Being A Licensed Chiropractor

Just like any other doctor, a chiropractor went through a substantial specialized training to be a licensed chiropractic specialist. He needed to spend some years studying and interning with a licensed chiropractic doctor so that he will be able provide treatment to patients.

Listed below are the stages to becoming a chiropractic practitioner: taking up a four year bachelor’s degree which supports the mission of becoming a chiropractor (anatomy, chemistry, neology, physiology, social science); applying to chiropractic colleges; attending four years of intense schooling as a preparation for a career as a D.C. (doctor of chiropractic); taking a licensure exam after which getting licensed; setting up practice or joining a current team of experts; on going education to stay current on modern methods and breakthroughs.

Some Differences Between A Chiropractor And A Conventional Medical Doctor

As mentioned earlier, a chiropractic doctor uses natural means of healing. These techniques are thought to give more benefits to patients than those of conventional treatments used by traditional medical doctors.

The features of chiropractic treatment are as follows:

Paying attention to the factors behind numerous disorders: A doctor of chiropractic medicine pays attention to the factors behind certain health conditions, thus, enhancing a patient’s general health and lifestyle.

Proven safe and effective: Most therapy options offered by chiropractic approaches are not accessible through traditional treatment. Furthermore, too much intake of medicine is said to cause decrease of effectiveness.

In Cases Of Disorders Excluded From The Chiropractor’s Area Of Concentration

At times, ailments may be a result of other disorders which might be beyond the scope of a chiropractic specialist’s job. In such cases, it is advisable to send the sufferer to a different expert. Nevertheless, the chiropractic doctor could still treat the patient through co-managed care with the specialist.

Scoliosis is a medical condition by which a person’s spine is curved from side to side. When a 15 Cobb angle is found, treatment is recommended to start off immediately.

Scoliosis therapy methods are comprised of breathing techniques, postural training, spinal elongation exercises, and manual processes to build spinal flexibility and improve muscle strength and control.

There are two common forms of scoliosis therapy: physical therapy exercise and massage therapy.

Scoliosis Therapy: How Physical Therapy Exercises Works

Constantly, the person concerned must work with a physical therapist. He also performs exercises at home, sometimes with the aid of a family member.

Furthermore, it will do a lot of help to consult an experienced and knowledgeable physical therapist. Many people also prefer to work simultaneously with a physical therapist and a clinician to make sure that the treatment methods remain suitable and effective.

There are different positions in physical therapy: Lying Positions(laying leg lifts, lying leg lifts); Seated Positions (seated twist, back arch, concave arch, concave back stretch); Standing Position (back stretch), and On The Floor Position (back arch).

Through scoliosis therapy exercises, a concerned individual gets various advantages from stretching, toning, and strengthening the muscles.

Scoliosis Therapy: The Effects Of Massage Therapy

The pain in the spinal column could be reduced by massage therapy. Massage can also reduce the high levels of stress that accompany scoliosis and relaxes the spinal column as well as the surrounding parts in the afflicted areas of the back.

When the body is massaged, muscles relax and drop their tension and blood flows more readily to different areas of the body. Moreover, the mind reduces its activities immediately, thus the patient’s body is allowed to start with the process of healing.

In addition, the body and mind are linked instinctively. Thus, if you’ve got a troubled mind, then you’ve got a troubled body also. Due to this, it can absolutely be anticipated that a massage with medical benefits can result to the recovery of the sufferer’s mind and body.

Scoliosis therapy can not actually cure scoliosis, but it can help you in having a more fulfilling and relaxed life by lessening your level of everyday pain.

Discs are composed of rings of rubbery material with a hard gelatinous center. When cracks appear in the stringy rings, the glutinous material in the center may start to push out, thus, resulting to a slipped disc.

Having a slipped disc does not necessarily mean that a disc has really slipped. It only indicates that something has gone out of its proper place. ‘Bulging discs’ is actually the literal description of the term.

Other disorder symptoms can also be caused by having a slipped disc: pain down the back of the leg, numbness or weakness.

Slipped Disc Treatment Techniques

In this article, our focus will be the chiropractic techniques in slipped disc treatment. Chiropractic approach in treatment targets realigning the spine to relieve the pain and promote the healing.

Here are the two main methods of chiropractic slipped disc treatment:

“Pelvic Blocking” Technique – In this technique, cushioned wedges are used and placed beneath each side of the pelvis along with exercises. Doing this will allow the force of gravity to take place. This also permits the changes to redirect the disc far from the nerve.

The common disc injury treatment is comprised of a sequence of non-force treatments with observation and evaluation. If there are no signs of improvement, however, it is suggested to send the patient to a different spine specialist. By co-managing with the specialist, the chiropractor can still treat the patient.

“Flexion-Distraction” Method – In this technique of slipped disc treatment, the spine is stretched using a specialized table, which also allows the chiropractor to set apart the area of disc involvement, while bending the spine in a pumping rhythm. In this treatment, no pain is expected.

The flexion-distraction procedure is the most known technique of treating symptomatic disc injuries including leg and back pain.

No Drugs Are Used In Chiropractic Slipped Disc Treatment

Drugs and surgery are not needed or involved in chiropractic slipped disc treatment. Chiropractic techniques reduce the spinal nerve stress, thus, enhancing natural health through the body.

Neck pain has become one of the most typical medical conditions, and is also called the cervical pain. Stress, injury, and other health conditions (including some that may have serious outcomes) can cause pain in the neck.

How A Chiropractor Helps Neck Pain Patients

A chiropractor addresses the actual spine or nerve-related causes of the patient’s neck pain. He may help a patient return to his usual activities immediately so that he can enjoy his daily life without pain.

Chiropractic Techniques For Neck Pain

Trigger Point Therapy – The chiropractor spots the painful parts of a muscle. Then he alleviates the tension by exerting direct pressure on these areas using his fingers.

Flexion-Distraction Method – In this procedure, a special treatment table is used to bring back the neck’s normal physiological range of flexion. It is a mild adjusting approach which works with the body’s natural design to assist it in healing properly and the natural way.

Furthermore, this procedure is pain-free and non-invasive. While adding pressure to parts of the neck, the chiropractor stretches and flexes the patient’s neck in varying directions.

Ultrasound – Through applying this technique, the sound waves produce a mild heat which infiltrates deep to the tissues. Ultrasound enhances the blood circulation, thus, the muscle pain, bulging, and stiffness decrease.

Inferential Electrical Stimulation – A low frequency electrical current is sent to the affected region, which then stimulates the muscles and controls persistent and severe pain. Through the heat yielded by the electrical current, mobility is boosted, and the pain and tightness are alleviated. Moreover, the electrical current sent to the affected region can also stimulate the body’s production of natural pain killers.

Averting The Possible Factors Behind Having Neck Pain

Chiropractors strongly emphasize prevention to promote natural health. For example, it would be better if a person would learn how to prevent neck pain by maintaining a good posture and using good mechanics. Chiropractors generally look at the whole person and his lifestyle, not just the pain; since they are more concerned with self-care and prevention as a way to maintain a healthy body.

In the world of therapeutic aromatherapy, there are three modalities of using essential oils: Topical application, ingestion and inhalation. Sometimes inhalation gets dismissed as not real medicine, but this just isn’t the case. Essential oils still get into your bloodstream if you inhale them (thereby helping oxygenate your blood, as many proponents will attest to) and providing a host of other therapeutic effects. But which diffuser is best? There are so many types available, in a wide range of prices. Which one is best really depends on your goal: to simply enjoy the aromatic pleasures of fine essential oils, or go all the way and get every last health-supportive effect you can from aromatherapy. We’ll look at them all here: warming, fan, nebulizing, and ultrasonic nebulizing.

The Science-Proven Health Benefits of Essential Oils

Those interested in supporting their family’s health through natural means are being drawn toward using essential oils. People are learning that aromatherapy isn’t just about aroma, its about real medicine that works. Even the simple applications are wonderful: diffusing oils in your home can calm the young and the old, and act as natural antidepressants (both scientifically validated actions). The research abstracts available on PubMed.Gov (and elsewhere around the Internet) also note that essential oils can boost the activity of our immune system. Eucalyptus has been shown to actually make our white blood cells more effective and doing their job. Further, many oils have both indirect and direct antiviral effects — they prevent infection of individual cells the oils have come in contact with, and can inactivate the actual viruses as well. (Their anti-bacterial actions are just as impressive). And diffusing essential oils into your environment can help you and your family enjoy all these benefits.

Diffusers for “Aroma” Therapy: Using Oils for Emotional and Energetic Benefits

One of the wonderful aspects of essential oils is that by simply inhaling the aroma, significant changes occur in our body’s physiology. This is because the olfactory sense is the most closely tied of the five senses to your brain. A scent can change the way your body is functioning without you even thinking about it (one study notes over 100 changes to the patterns of RNA transcription from smelling Linalool, the primary relaxing component in Lavender). Smelling certain oils can lower stress, improve mood, calm children, and improve the quality of sleep. And for this type of therapy, ANY diffuser will do the job. The only consideration that really matters here is how large an area you’d like to diffuse the oil into — would you like to smell it from one end of the house to the other, or just in one room.

Let’s look at the diffuser types, the area they’ll each cover, and a few other useful details if you’re just wanting the wonderful aromatic effects (we’ll get to which one’s are best for more medicinal applications in a moment). The order, from smallest to largest space covered is this: A warming diffuser is good for one small to moderate size room. It plugs in a wall and evaporates the oil from a small pad by heating it gently — it’s completely silent. A fan diffuser, which blows cold air over a pad with oils on it, can cover one large room, and you might here the quiet fan whirring. Then an “ultrasonic nebulizer”, which is essentially a small ultrasonic humidifier adapted to diffuse essential oils. These diffuse in an area from 400 to 700 square feet, and can have electronic accessories like an interval timer (which helps conserve your oils) and cool lighting effects. Finally, there’s the cold-air nebulizers, which make a mist of the pure essential oil without added water. These can cover areas larger than 800 square feet.

Any of these diffusers will allow you and your family to enjoy and benefit from the aromatic effects of essential oils. Generally the more costly units will cover more square footage, but will not provide more benefit in terms of aroma. If however you’d like to take full advantage of the medicinal aspects of essential oils, providing immune support (and data is now coming out that essential oils can even prevent cancer) you’ll want to be a little more careful with your selection. For actions like disinfecting your living environment, boosting immune function, and perhaps using essential oils to support recovery from an illness, it can be important to put a higher concentration of essential oils in the air than you can do with a simple fan or warming unit.

When you really want complete control over the amount of essential oil in the air in your home or workplace, and to output enough essential oil in those times when you may really need to, a nebulizing diffuser is the only way to go. Note these are not the “ultrasonic nebulizers”, as they do not mix oil and water — they make a mist of pure essential oil that you can actually see. These units will tend to be the most expensive, but give you the widest variety of operating conditions: from simply outputting a very pleasant aroma in a small room, to outputting a significant amount of essential oil that can potentially disinfect your environment of microbes while supporting the function of your immune system.

Getting The Most Out Of Your Essential Oils

An important note when using any type of diffuser, your nose will become sensitized to any aroma very quickly. If you diffuse the same scent continually, you’ll notice you smell it less and less within just a few minutes. This is because your nose only has so many receptors for each aroma, and once they’re filled, they take a little time before they can signal the aroma’s presence to your brain again. All “high end” diffusers will either have a timer control built in, or recommend the use of a programmable appliance timer to cycle the diffuser on and off. A typical cycle is only 5 minutes “on” every hour — yes, only five minutes! If using the diffuser for immunity purposes, you might consider however running the unit continually on its lowest setting. In any case, know that no diffuser is more efficient than another — the amount of oil in the air is always a direct result of how much you’ve put in the diffuser — but a timer can help you smell a smaller amount of oil from any diffuser.

Most of the time you’ll find essential oil blends for skin care formulated for women. They’ll have fairly floral scents, and maybe ingredients specifically included to manage estrogen. Well, here’s a look at formulating for men; blends with deeper, mild aromas and therapeutic actions geared toward helping men keep their skin healthy and youthful.

“Aromatherapy” actually provides the perfect ingredients for anti-aging skin care. Two primary processes are thought to contribute to the skin’s aging: inflammation and oxidation. Essential oils have been shown again and again in laboratory settings to be potent against both. Essential oils and the base oils they’re blended with are also rich in nutrients required for skin health. And, last but not least, the oils are regenerative — they speed the process of new cell formation, which otherwise slows as we get older.

Two of the most important anti-aging oils, with historical use of perhaps thousands of years, are frankincense and myrrh. These oils are distilled from the resins (or sap) of very hearty desert trees and shrubs. They have very complex chemical make ups, having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties all in one oil. Frankincense has even been the subject of peer-reviewed research, showing the ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and smooth skin texture overall. These oils are available in both steam distilled and carbon dioxide distillations, and it is the carbon dioxide distillations that are most desirable for this purpose.

Next up are the oils that are known specifically for their regenerative and cell-stimulating effects. Helichrysum italicum and rosemary verbenone are found in nearly every “scar reduction” recipe; the features which make them so useful in these blends make them great anti-aging essential oils as well. Helichrysum is anti-inflammatory and high in regenerative “di-ketones” (the only oil in common use to have these specific molecular components). Rosemary of the “verbenone” chemotype is considered a “specialty skin care oil”, as it too has unique regenerative ketones. It is also thought to enhance skin cell metabolism, increasing the nutrients-in and waste-out processes.

Then we have the CO2 extracts of carrot root, whole rosehips (not just the seed), and whole sea buckthorn berries. These are all VERY rich in nutrients for rejuvenating the skin, as well as antioxidant protection. Sea buckthorn was even studied for protecting the skin of Russian cosmonauts from radiation in space. This will leave your skin a little red while they absorb when used at high concentration; you might consider making a night time formula with lots of these in there — your skin will be happy for it.

And no “men’s” skin care formula would be complete without sandalwood essential oil. In addition to being a soft, relaxing aroma, it’s very balancing and protective at the same time. Sandalwood balances skin oils (helps both “too oily” and “too dry” become “normal”), and has even been shown to protect against skin cancers.

All these essential oils and extracts will be measured by the drop into the base of your recipe. The base is made up of “fixed” oils — vegetable, seed or nut oils that do not easily evaporate. These provide essential fatty acids and other unique nutrients for our purpose: Rosehip seed oil (not the same as the extract already discussed, but from the same plant), tamanu (also called Callophylum or Foraha), and argan (also called “Moroccan oil”). Mix these three together at equal parts for your base.

On to the recipes! Each recipe is for each one ounce of final formula. You can simply multiply these numbers for whatever amount you’d like to make. So, for those with “normal” skin, use a base of equal parts rosehip seed, tamanu and argan oils. For each ounce of blend, add 8 drops each of frankincense, helichrysum, rosemary verbenone, and rosehip essential oils. It’s that simple! This is an incredibly therapeutic blend for regular daily use. You an also consider adding myrrh, and any of the other carbon dioxide extracts mentioned to enhance your recipe.

For variations of skin type, consider these: For those with acne-prone skin, DO NOT use rosehip seed oil carrier — either eliminate it or replace it with organic virgin coconut (which cures acne alone for some users). And use sea buckthorn “CO2″ instead of rosehip “CO2″ For those with sensitive skin, reduce each oil by two drops and add four drops of lavender (don’t worry, it won’t be enough to smell like a flower)!

That’s it — these formulations are as fine as any you’ll find in high-end boutiques at a fraction of the cost. Feel free too to adjust the recipes to your skin’s needs; this is easily done, and you can perfect your recipe to care for your “manly” skin for years to come.

Therapeutic use of essential oils is beginning to be recognized in the United States as a valid modality for treating illness. There is still significant resistance to the science of Aromatherapy, but such is the resistance from the institutional-medicine/pharmaceutical-industrial complex to most ‘natural’ health treatments. ‘Big Pharma’ is THE industry with the highest average profit margins on earth — and is dedicated to producing, patenting, marketing selling new, unnatural (and therefore ‘patent-able’) chemical compounds that are supposed to answer every need of health and wellness. While some formulations do much good for the world (modern medicine has nearly eradicated several life-threatening illnesses from the planet), other medicines simply mask symptoms for a time, and others are downright dangerous.

Alternative therapies make up nearly ALL of the medicine ever used on Earth, and in many respects, we’re doing very well as a species — we must have been doing something right all that time. Many folks consider our connection to nature critical to our continued success on the planet, and that natural medicine must play a leading role. Essential oils turn out to be some of nature’s greatest gifts; they are potent chemicals created naturally by plants and are easily accessible to us. They’re also easy to use, relatively safe, and just happen to smell wonderful. What really is the science of Aromatherapy, and how might you learn to employ it in your wellness program? Let’s have a look…

There is an amazing disregard for natural healing in the mainstream media – despite the fact that so many of today’s ‘modern medicines’ are derived directly from plant compounds. There are HUNDREDS of plants that are known to contain anti-cancer compounds, for example. Many of these without the side-effects of chemotherapy (it takes a skilled, knowledgeable Naturopathic doctor to develop an effective personal protocol for this type of work, but success is certainly possible). This brings us to the amazing derision placed upon the science of Aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is purely the science of therapeutic use, for physiological as well as psychological imbalances and disorders, of naturally-produced volatile aromatic plant chemicals. It may be that the term ‘Aromatherapy’ lends itself to being pigeon-holed into mystical ‘new age’ hocus-pocus, but in reality, it is simply the practice of using a particular class of natural compounds to improve one’s health, wellness and well-being.

A backlash may be coming; more people are getting fed up with the high cost of healthcare and the soaring cost of prescription drugs. They are willing to investigate natural, inexpensive alternatives, particularly when ‘proven’ effective in the same arena as are modern pharmaceuticals. An important example is the use of Peppermint essential oil in treating irritable bowel syndrome. A study of 50 children comparing the effects of a common chemical preparation and peppermint oil capsules on alleviating their symptoms showed the peppermint oil to be drastically more effective, with fewer side effects, than the pharmaceutical drug. The nature of the essential oil is that it will eliminate bacteria causing disease symptoms, while leaving much-needed natural intestinal flora unharmed. This is the beauty of aromatherapy, and properly utilized natural medicines in general.

Another well documented treatment using essential oils is the use of Melissa essential oil on Herpes Simplex viral legions. The legions are outbreaks of the virus during times of undue stress; the virus is typically under control of the immune system and remains dormant in nerve endings of the skin – the disease is considered ‘incurable’ by conventional medicine. A great many university studies have evaluated Melissa (and other essential oils containing similar molecular components) and it’s efficacy in treating Herpes – and the results have been astounding. A majority of study participants have less pain, along with shorter and less-frequent outbreaks. One professor claims that the disease has gone into complete remission in some study participants with regular use of Melissa oil; no more outbreaks at all! Further, Melissa is very well tolerated, has no known toxic effects, and is readily available. This is true aroma-’therapy’ taking it’s place in the world of natural health, wellness and fitness.

Then, of course, there is the ‘aroma’ therapeutic aspect of essential oil use. The hard facts show the olfactory sense of the brain is wired directly to vital control centers of the gray matter – particularly those governing emotions, stress levels and, well we’re not sure how this relates to your health, but sexual arousal as well. And with acceptance of the importance of one’s mental health relating to their physical well being continuing to grow, Aromatherapy may eventually find it’s place in hospitals and doctor’s offices alongside stethoscopes, syringes and cotton swabs. Many, many studies have shown the self-evaluated improvements in mood and stress levels when inhaling particular essential oils – and because stress is considered by many health professionals as THE number one cause of disease, it’s a short leap to believe the inhalation of spirit-lifting aromas can result in improved states of health.

Aromatherapy certainly deserves it’s place in the realm of medical treatments available today – some consider essential oils the absolute best route of treatment for certain infectious illnesses (essential oils have a wide range of antimicrobial and anti-viral effects). Oils are not a cure all, nor are they wonder drugs. They are effective plant medicines which should be used in appropriate situations with the respect they deserve. There are many well-written, interesting guides to medicinal use of essential oils; noted authors are Kurt Schnaubelt, Robert Tisserand, and Jane Buckley, among others. Find one or more of these texts and educate yourself! You’ll find a whole new world opening up in your natural health and wellness choices.

The author has made available much information about aromatherapy, such as using lavender and other pure essential oils.

For most people who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure they will also be told their cholesterol is too high (over 88 percent, in fact). Traditional Western medicine dictates that we are prescribed pills by our doctor to treat both conditions.

In addition to this we most often told to change our exercise and eating habits. For many, this means adopting some sort of exercise routine after years of inactivity.

Exercise and diet helps to improve health, but even a healthy new habit is very hard to adopt. All the people do this correctly and without questioning. Medicines taken for cholesterol and high blood pressure mostly work.

Medicines are considered to be an easy option, as it involves very little effort. It is just following the prescription of taking medicines every day. Only when we get the side effects of that medication we think about it.

Let me ask a very basic question? Why blood pressure and cholesterol should in control? Because high blood pressure can lead to damages of tissues in kidney, heart and eyes. And this may lead to heart attack, stroke, blindness if not treated.

Normally higher blood pressure do not come with any symptoms, so even it has the name of silent killer. The systolic reading of high blood pressure is 140 and diastolic reading is 90.

Cholesterol is found in cell walls and tissues all over the body. It is even found in heart, liver, brain, intestines etc. Body needs cholesterol to produce certain hormones and to breakdown fats. A fatty and waxy substance is called cholesterol.

Only a very small amount of cholesterol is needed to do this, however. Too much cholesterol in the body can lead to deposits and buildup in the arteries. One area this causes concern is in the coronary arteries. This can lead to coronary heart disease (CHD).

When not treated this sediment will narrow the artery walls and this will limit the flow of blood to the heart. And this may lead to chest pain and heart attack.

A simple blood test will reveal the level of cholesterol in our body. Low-density lipoprotein or LDL (bad cholesterol), high- density lipoprotein, or HDL (good cholesterol) and triglycerides (other fatty substances in the blood) are measured.

Many of the studies based on cholesterol shows that diets that contain high saturated fat can lead to high cholesterol. Other factors that can lead to cholesterol are heredity, obesity, age, stress and usage of alcohol.

While moderate drinking actually shows an increase in HDL levels, it doesn\’t lower LDL levels and excessive drinking can lead to liver disease and high blood pressure.

Studies say that high blood pressure does not lead to high cholesterol, but these are the two factors that lead to heart disease and these two are controllable factors. The study also reveals that there is only 10% chance for a person to have high cholesterol and low blood pressure or vice versa.

This shouldn\’t be surprising as they share many of the same risk factors (age, weight, diet). Added to this, it takes different drugs to treat each condition. This often leads to multiple medications and a greatly increased chance for dangers of drug interactions.

What can you do to lower your cholesterol? I highly encourage you to try my Beat Cholesterol in Thirty Days program. It is an all natural, easy to follow program. If high blood pressure is also your concern, my High Blood Pressure program has helped thousands of people find relief. I highly encourage you to try it today!

Meditation is considered as a powerful form of self-realization and self-healing. There are various methods by which you can meditate, but perhaps, the most potent of all is the Chakra Meditation.

Chakra Meditation \” A Primer

The meditation whose basic aim is to align the movement of all the seven primary Chakras in the body is termed as Chakra Meditation. Our body consists of 7 primary and over 20,000 secondary Chakras. For a better understanding of Chakra Meditation, its important to know what and where are the primary Chakras in the body:

1. Crown Chakra is situated at the top of the head. It is related to the thought element, which governs our wisdom, knowledge, and consciousness.

2. Orange or Naval or Sacral Chakra located at the center of abdomen and related to the element Water. It governs our emotions and sexuality.

3. Solar Plexus or Power Chakra located just above the naval region and related to the element Fire. It governs our will power, autonomy, and metabolism.

4. Heart Chakra governing your general relationships, and feelings of love and compassion is located at the center of the chest and related to the element Air.

5. Throat Chakra governing your sense of creativity, resonance and communication skills is located at the base of the throat and related to the element Sound.

6. Brow or The Third Eye Chakra located between the brows on the forehead and related to the element Light. It governs perception, interpretation, imagination, and clear vision.

7. Root Chakra, also called the Base Chakra, is situated at the base of the spine. It is related to the Earth element, which governs our overall health, security, and prosperity in life.

A concentrated mind working towards the achievement of synchronized movements of these seven Chakras in the body can truly bring incalculable rewards in ones life. The body, mind, and soul would become stress-free and youll emerge as a better-informed human being who can easily see the spiritual side to every materialistic possession in this world. One can also achieve natural healing for bodily and mental ailments just by bringing the seven energy centers in consonance with each other.

Chakra Meditation Unleashed

Chakra Meditation involves three techniques in this order:

1. Grounding Technique refers to the process whereby, your body feels connected with Earth. The visualization involves assuming a root growing from your body and entering into the Earth, thus, transfixing your body to the ground. With some intense focus and determination, you can achieve this state of Chakra Meditation.

2. Centering Technique, which aims at preparing your body to receive the benefits of Chakra Meditation. Just take three to five deep breaths and visualize relaxation of every body part from toe to crown. In simple words, just tighten and relax each body part from toe to the crown, and then visualize the act of centering a pot on a pottery wheel.

3. Relaxation Technique, which is the final step in Chakra Meditation. There is no hard and fast rule to relax your body. Everyone has his or her own method of relaxation.

One of the popular methods of Chakra Meditation is detailed below:

a) Sit or lie down in a position that is most comfortable for your body.

b) Loosen all your clothing so that there is no tension on any part of the body, and close your eyes.

c) Breathe in a relaxed manner, which is neither too fast nor too slow. Let the breath come naturally!

d) The next step relates to feeling every part of your body from toe to head in that direction. While your eyes are closed, try to feel everything that you wouldve seen with open eyes, like earth, air, clothes, surroundings etc. The idea is to feel awareness even with closed eyes.

e) You may experience a wave of thoughts, fears, and every kind of emotion during this process. Dont avoid them! This represents the release of stress-related thoughts. With practice and regular exercise, these negative emotions and feelings will disappear.

f) Feel every subtle inner detail and let your awareness travel freely from one body part to the other.

Chakra Meditation can be performed by anyone at convenient hours. There is no rule for the duration of time to perform Chakra Meditation. Suit your comfort levels!

They’ve Known It All Along

Aromatherapy always conjured up for me simple ideas of nice smelling things to relax you. I truly had little interest in those racks of little bottles in the health food store. But some friends of mine encouraged me to have a look at the science as to essential oils being healing medicines. Never in all my schooling were the volatile components of plants mentioned, or if they were, it was cursory, within a look at plant physiology. Now I’ve been through a series of science-based aromatherapy books and research papers, and here’s my discovery of aroma-medicine, something practitioners using aromatic oils have known all along.

So Much More Than Just Aroma

I have been using natural and alternative wellness treatments for my health for years, yet I had only associated aromatherapy with getting a massage or putting lavender on my pillow for a better night’s sleep. Unbeknownst to me, aromatherapy has been used for centuries and currently used in medical facilities in France. Now, with a rising interest and even demand for alternative and complementary medicine (CAM), research is being conducted on the benefits of aromatherapy for infections, psyche, nerves, hormones and to some extent inflammation, allergies and metabolic conditions.

Aromatherapy is Aroma-Medicine

Contrary to my own vague association, aromatherapy is more than smelling certain scents. Jane Buckle, RN, Ph.D. concludes that there are four main types of aromatherapy: clinical, stress management, beauty therapy and environmental fragrancing. I think many of us have an association of aromatherapy when it comes to beauty therapy and good smelling fragrances from the aroma of essential oils, yet the clinical and stress management aspects of aromatherapy have been hidden from view.

Still, to wrap my science-slanted mind around what truly is aromatherapy, I needed to get more of a workable definition. The gist of the meaning of aromatherapy is that it is therapeutic uses of essential oils of aromatic plants. These oils, usually extracted from plants using water or steam distillation, are mainly used in diffusers as well as topically. Once the aromatic essential oils are extracted, the oils are quite volatile. When the oils are exposed to air, they change from a potent liquid into an aromatic vapor within seconds.

In Advanced Aromatherapy, Dr. Schnaubelt explains that the main chemical component of essential oils are terpenes and it higher homologues as well as phenylpropane derivatives. Yet it must be pointed out that the synergy of each oil has it own unique qualities as well as specific chemical components.

Nature in a Bottle

Each of us is aware of the far reaching affects of the high-tech civilization that we live. Yet, one that is often overlooked or forgotten is the loss of nature – both in our surrounding environment and in personal knowledge. In this modern age, it seems that humans have separated mind from body and body from soul. If we were to look at the essence of what aromatherapy is, it is simply nature in a bottle.

Probing into my biology textbook, I read about plant defenses in a whole new light. Plants produce chemical compounds, mostly terpenoid compounds, in order to defend themselves against predators such as insects and animal herbivores as well as against fungai and other microbes. These terpenoid compounds also are used in plant to plant competition, where established plants inhibit germination of other plants. And of course plants use scent in attracting beneficial insect and bat pollinators. (4) (5) Thus, it is evident that the role of essential oils is vital to the continual establishment and growth of plants.

Observing Animals

I wonder in my own mind why the usage and medicinal properties of plants is so unfamiliar in our culture. I have known for years that horses select various plants to facilitate detoxing of metabolic toxic buildup, as well as for antiviral and anti-parasitic properties. I remember in college learning about Chimpanzees eating certain plants to cleanse their accumulation of internal parasites.

And, I know from my graduate work in entomology that insects have fairly well developed chemoreception and some are attracted to plants by their scents. It tugs at my reasoning why plants and their essential oils are not more widely used in everyday life, but as I have pointed out above that is now changing. In part two of this paper, I will dive into the physiological aspects of how aromatherapy is absorbed into the human body and the current research on clinical and stress management uses.
