The signs and causes of paranoid schizophrenia usually show up when the patient is between the ages of 18 and 30, although childhood cases also exist. The early signs begin with anxiety, sudden anger, a patronizing attitude, aloofness, social withdrawal and suicidal thoughts or behavior. As the disorder progresses, some paranoid schizophrenics hear voices or have delusions that coworkers are "out to get them." More often than not, a person may not even recognize his or her own paranoid personality. Currently, the exact cause of this debilitating disorder is unknown, but there are a few viable theories floating around.

The signs and causes of paranoid schizophrenia are still largely mysterious. Often the first signs of this disorder mimic other illnesses like depression, bipolar, intermittent explosive anger disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Like other mental disorders, schizophrenics are usually socially withdrawn, angry, depressed, aloof, eccentric and unfocused. However, it’s the presence of positive symptoms, like hallucinations and/or mental delusions that have come to really define paranoid schizophrenia. While the exact causes are as yet undetermined, there are many theories being examined and tested.

While genetics undoubtedly play a part in the signs and causes of paranoid schizophrenia, researchers believe that there are a myriad of factors to explain why some family members may have a paranoid personality, while others do not. This year, an international team of scientists from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the University of Edinburgh found that 4% of bipolar patients and 2% of schizophrenics showed a break in their DNA — the ABCA-13 gene, specifically. This gene, located in the hippocampus memory center and cortex of the brain, could be part of the puzzle when it comes to unraveling a disorder that may be caused by hundreds of thousands of genes.

Chemical imbalances in neurotransmitters, proteins and amino acids all play a role too, but it’s unknown what causes the brain to turn on itself. The causes and signs of paranoid schizophrenia have been traced back to dopamine and glutamate. Researchers believe that dopamine floods the mesolimbic pathway of the brain, causing psychotic symptoms, although it’s not known what triggers the release.

Scientists have also proposed that what causes schizophrenia is an activation of D2 receptors. Many of the new antipsychotic medications affect both the dopamine and the seratonin functioning in the brain. The brains of schizophrenics often show reduced function of the NMDA glutamate receptor.

The problem in understanding the signs and causes of paranoid schizophrenia is that there is no clear-cut, universal cause. The brain scans, neurochemical makeup, environmental factors and genetic code of people who suffer from paranoid schizophrenia vary greatly from person to person. Down the road and sometime in the future, researchers hope to figure out the causes of schizophrenia so they can screen for the disorder, propose early intervention strategies and gain a better understanding of what causes this debilitating disorder.

Difficult to define exactly, it has become popular to think of almost any behavior that has a compulsive quality as an “addiction. Addictions come in all shapes and forms. ” But for those who have an addiction, or for those affected by the addiction of a loved one or close friend, it’s clear what an addiction means in “real” terms.

The relationship between mental health issues and substance use is convoluted. According to research gathered at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health in Ontario, more than half of people with substance use disorders also have mental health issues such as anxiety or depression. Some people with mental health problems use different substances to self-medicate, but end up making things worse.

The body develops a physical tolerance to the substance or activity, so people with addictions so people must take larger and larger amounts of a substance to feel the same effects. The substance activity or activity that triggers must initially cause feelings of pleasure and changes in emotion or mood. The removal of the drug or activity causes painful withdrawal symptoms. More than physical tolerance, an addiction develops physical and psychological dependence separate from the need to avoid the pain of withdrawal.

The answer lies in the brain. Repeated drug use alters the brain-causing long-lasting changes to the way it looks and functions. These brain changes interfere with your ability to think clearly, exercise good judgment, control your behavior, and feel normal without drugs. These changes are also responsible, in large part, for the drug cravings and compulsion to use that make addiction so powerful.

So when this flutter of activity increases the creation of dopamine for the negative behaviors and substances like drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc., it neglects the natural survival instinct reaction mechanisms, replacing them with the ecstasy instead. The problem is the brain doesn’t realize what it is that is causing the ecstasy reaction.

Addiction always causes psychological, chemical, and anatomical changes in the brain along with behavior changes. Addiction develops after an initial exposure to the addicting substance or activity. That initial exposure must occur for addiction to develop, but addiction does not always develop. The cycle of quitting the addictive behavior, going through withdrawal, and relapsing may become self-reinforcing.

It’s been argued that in some cases, using substances to self-medicate is a learned behavior to cope with stress. Some people inherit a vulnerability to the addictive properties of drugs. Studies have shown that the risk of substance use disorders is higher for people who have a close relative with addictions. Even if a person has a genetic vulnerability to addiction, it does not necessarily mean he will become an addict.

There is always a reason why a person develops an addiction. More often than not other factors that are behind addictions include chaos in the family unit, poverty, having physical, emotional or sexual abuse in the past or present to deal with or conflict. Families play a strong role in substance abuse recovery. With support from family members who are non-judgmental, a person with addictions is more likely to stay in treatment and have a successful outcome.

We can categorize human personality in two section- Introvert and Extroverts. People who are open to change and do not have public fear belong to the second category whereas there is another section which is not comfortable in being a part of a large gathering and has restricted set of people in the circle. They are not keen on meeting new people and avoid interaction with outsiders.

This approach of people to avoid social events and gatherings is often termed as Social anxiety. When their social anxiety worsens they do need a professional help for social anxiety treatment. Stammering, hating public meeting, shying, blushing and wanting to be alone are few symptoms of having a social anxiety.

The treatment of this social anxiety can be done by a Psychologist. A person will require a few counselling sessions done by the psychologist to come out of this anxiety. This treatment will also be free of any drugs and medications. Another way for social anxiety treatment used by psychologist and professional is getting the patient in a group of people who share among themselves their stories and experiences.

The group members are slowly replaced by outsider who are completely unknown to the patient and have their own set of social problems. An exchange session is organized where every person shares his story. As the patient progress the group size is improved by reducing the family member and including people from outside.

During the speaking session the patients is made comfortable to open up and his progress is monitored by the flow of the speech with each session that is carried out. Finally with each passing session the person becomes more confident to face larger gathering and put up his view point in a more effective and smooth manner.

Changing your lifestyle can also have a positive effect to recover from social anxiety. Have a control on your eating and drinking habit. Drinks involving caffeine can worsen the situation as it makes you feel more anxious and jittery. It is very important that the person is relaxed. Though drinking calms the nerves but it also hampers the person\’s cognitive ability and it is less likely that he could smoothly deal with the situation and not have the anxiety attack.

Same as caffeine makes the patients more anxious similarly even smoking have a negative effect. It does not let the person relax and lighten up. Sleeping adequate hours is also very important to overcome social anxiety. To feel fresh and confident to face the society it is very important that you have a sound sleep in the night.

Today you will find lots of social networking sites which are easy to access and where a person can talk his heart out without putting up his identity. This latest method for social anxiety treatment has now become highly improved in dealing with people with anxiety and is getting them faster results than expected.

You should know the social anxiety treatment when such feelings occur. This is because you are the only person who can help yourself when this arises.

When it comes to learning how to prevent panic attacks, people tend to overlook it. The common notion is that when you\’re feeling you are about to have an attack, the symptoms would continuously progress even if you do everything you might.

Many individuals always try to go looking for formulas that will make them lose the condition as swiftly as breathing one cycle. there isn\’t any such thing as fast recovery system from the assault. You will need to battle it off and forestall it from developing so you won\’t have to face the awful effects. What should you find that there are things that you can do?

Avoid stimulants

What are these stimulants? Stimulants include caffeine, nicotine and sugar. All of these substances can offer you boost in your energy and keeps you awake. You will endure a lot of stress because these stimulants will keep you going even if your mind is at the point of break down. You have to recollect that your cerebral cortex needs rest. You have to listen to me when I say that the fitness of your intellect is the same as the healthiness of your body. Foods that increase sugar content in your blood will trigger the releasing of adrenaline. And, it will make your body make a response to the sympathetic nervous system where your heart rate increases. As a result, this may put you in peril for an attack.

Always know that reduction of these substances will really make serious difference in the way that you handle an attack.

Spend some time with yourself

Do not forget to save some time alone where you can be away from work, children, household jobs and family. It\’s just when you are alone that you can think and rest peacefully. When you suspect, you will realize that things are not real especially your fears. You are just having an exaggerated reaction to fear of the unknown.

You fear something that\’s not really there and this is what you should fight. You can take long walks, window shop, dine at fine restaurants or spend overnite in a luxury suit hotel so long as you are away from stress. You can get a body massage from spas with aromatherapy. To explain, you want to treat yourself while spending some time alone. This will help you calm. Do this one or more times in a week. I do think your relatives and buddies will understand why you do this. You are helping yourself as much as your medical advisor does.

If you will not worry then you will make your plans easily and in less time.

There is a popular saying cut the past, shut the future, and live in present. Always do right things in present and do not think about the past. If you plan the present in right way then you do not have to worry about future. And keep one thing in mind that past is past. Do not think about it. It is gone time. The most important thing is do exercise and yoga daily. This will give your mind a good relaxation. Meditation is also a very good thing. Understand the benefits of stop worrying.

You will see the problem that you are thinking of is not a big problem and you will be able to find the solutions easily.

Now suppose the main problem of everybody in this world is money. The main problem is saving money for future. You worry that you cannot save good amount for your future. So in this case instead of worrying think how you can save. Make a diary every day about how much you spent. See your diary after some days and note which things you should avoid spending and save money. This will save a lot.

Worrying is not the right thing and it can give you a lot of problems. It can crop up many more different diseases in your mind. So be aware and be optimistic. Stop worrying and start working. It will give you a profitable solution and make your life happy.

Panic attacks are terrifying, but they pose no direct medical problems. However, it\’s still important to develop strategies to calm yourself. Breathing techniques can be very helpful against panic attacks. Following are several different techniques that can help get your panic under control.

Sigh Breath: Some call the sigh breath \”the instant tranquillizer,\” because it works so well for anxiety and panic. It specifically targets tension in your neck, diaphragm, and chest. When you feel the panic attack starting, say to yourself aloud: \”Stop.\” Breathe in slowly through your nose, remembering to avoid a particularly deep inhale. Hold your breath for a second. Then breathe out gradually. Without making yourself uncomfortable, prolong the exhale as much as possible. While the air rushes out your body, relax your muscles. Concentrate on the muscles of your face, shoulders and abdomen. After you have finished exhaling, you\’ll experience a break before your next breath. Your diaphragm is not moving. Don\’t worry, this naturally happens. Just let yourself feel the tranquility. Inhale again, keeping your breath shallow.

Breathing with your diaphragm: Start by sitting comfortably in a chair, keeping your back straight. Some find closing their eyes more relaxing, so you may want to try that too. Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. Diaphragmatic breathing requires you to use your abdominal muscles. Inhale and exhale three or four times. You should not be exerting yourself. After your fourth exhale, do not immediately begin inhaling. Wait for a few moments. Without your prompting, your body should soon begin inhaling. Let your body breathe for itself. It will find its natural rhythm. Likely you will notice your abdomen regularly rising and falling. You\’re breathing with your diaphragm.

Meditation breathing: If you\’ve ever taken a course in yoga or meditation, you know that by modifying your breathing, you can transform your mental state. To combat the onset of a panic attack, you can use meditative breathing to calm yourself. Sit with your back straight, and your feet flat on the ground. You want to have excellent posture, but be comfortable at the same time. Draw in a slow, deep breath. Hold your breath for a few moments, counting to five. Then exhale gradually. Before you inhale again, pause, again counting to five. Then inhale. You should be feeling a separation between your inhales and your exhales.

Buteyko Breathing: This technique aims to reduce breathing and thereby increase the levels of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream. Carbon dioxide is a natural tranquillizer and will calm the panic attack. There is some controversy about this technique, because low levels of oxygen in the blood can be highly dangerous. There are Buteyko instructors who can guide you through it safely, and this is highly recommended.

A panic attack is one of the most frightening disorders that you can experience. You will feel totally out of control, mentally, emotionally and physically. Find what you need to know about panic attack help at Help for Panic Attacks.

Depression is among the most frequently reported medical conditions today and is projected to become the second leading cause of disability worldwide by 2020. It is estimated by some that roughly half the people who seek treatment for depression are not helped by psychotherapy and medication or withdraw from treatment too early. Even among those who recover, more than one third of them have a relapse within eighteen months. This suggests that alternative treatments for depression may be helpful for some who suffer from this disorder. Here are some of the ways in which depression can be managed naturally.

A lack of certain vitamins can be a contributing factor to depression. For instance, Vitamin B9 (also known as Folic Acid) is very important for the proper functioning of the brain and therefore plays a significant role in one’s mental and emotional health. It also aids in the production of DNA and RNA and is especially crucial during high growth periods, like infancy, adolescence, and pregnancy. Folic acid also helps form red blood cells. A folic acid deficiency can result in (among other things) mental sluggishness and depression.

All the members of Vitamin B family are responsible for breaking down of carbohydrates and proteins. Vitamin B6 (also known as Pyridoxine) also helps to regulate enzymes, healthy skin and digestion system, production of blood cells and antibodies. It also maintains the hormonal balance in women, as well as being very important in regulating mood and behavior. A deficiency of Pyridoxine can lead to irritation and anxiety, insomnia and nervousness. Vitamin B6 supplements have been used to help women cope with post menopause depression and anxiety.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) does not recognize depression as a specific illness but instead tries to treat the specific symptoms that are unique to the individual. A variety of techniques are used to restore imbalances found in the body, such as Chinese herbs, tui-na massage, exercise and acupuncture.

In a double blind randomized study of the effectiveness of acupuncture for treatment depression, 34 depressed female patients were assigned to one of three treatment groups for eight weeks. The first group received acupuncture treatment specifically tailored to their symptoms. The second group received a general acupuncture treatment that was not specific to depression, and the third group was placed on a waiting list for acupuncture treatment, but received none. The study found that those in the tailored acupuncture treatment experienced a more significant reduction in symptoms, compared to those in the non-specific treatment. In addition, more than half of the participants no longer met the accepted diagnostic criteria for depression after the study.

There are also a number of herbal remedies for treating depression. For example, ginko biloba is a natural ingredient that improves circulation in the brain, which often in turn improves memory and also eases some symptoms of depression. It can be taken along with other natural ingredients such as St. John’s Wort as an overall mood enhancer.

While licorice has been known for a long time to be an effective herbal treatment for colds, recently recorded data have shown impressive results in the treatment of depression. Licorice is a natural anti-depressant which contains eight monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Licorice can be taken either as a capsule or drunk as a tea. However, if taken in too large a dose or over a lengthy period, there may be side effects like increased blood pressure, headaches and lethargy. Licorice should be supplemented with potassium capsules and increased water intake to offset the side effects, and should only be used on the advice of a licensed practitioner.

A doctor is the best person to suggest to someone the right combination of medication and vitamins for depression, as well as explaining the potential side effects. DO NOT try and figure this out yourself, as the side effects can be severe or even fatal if the wrong dosage is taken.

Depression is a much more serious condition than just feeling a little blue. It’s a real problem that can affect all aspects of a person’s life, from their job to their relationships.
You have been tossing and turning all night. You want to get a decent night’s sleep but it has proven to be completely elusive. This is not something that has just occurred out of the blue. Your sleep disturbances have been occurring for months now. Come to think of it, you have experienced these same problems in the past for several years. What is the cause of it? If you are like many people, the root cause of your sleeplessness could be anxiety.

Is this possible? Yes, it is indeed. In fact, if you’re concerned about your finances, your job, or even some other personal matter to the point where you can no longer enjoy a good night’s rest, then there’s a strong possibility that you’re suffering from anxiety induced insomnia. And, before you try to brush this off as being nothing more that unpleasant, you need to know that if you continue to go without enough sleep, there can be serious consequences.

If you are not getting a good night’s sleep for a couple of weeks, what do you think the effect of this would be on your job? This would definitely take it’s toll on your work status. Irritability due to the lack of sleep can affect home life and cause problems with your friends and family. That is why it is imperative to take control of the situation and turn it around.

One question often asked even though we know anxiety can cause sleeplessness is why does this happen? Basically the hyperactivity and restlessness you have are the reason these occur together. The mind races through so many thoughts that it makes it impossible to relax long enough to sleep. This is what ends up causing sleeplessness which must be dealt with by anxiety sufferers.

There are many ways one can reduce anxiety so as to eliminate sleeplessness. Without a doubt, one of the most important things to do is not ingest anything that will contribute to anxiety. For example, it is critically important to avoid caffeine or other stimulants if you are having trouble sleeping. This is because they are known to heighten and contribute to anxiety. Hence, they are best avoided.

Frequent and regular exercise is also of vital importance, primarily because anxiety is interconnected with excessive amounts tension and of course, exercise can greatly reduce tension. In fact, just as one can use exercise to burn up calories when you want to loose weight, so too can you use exercise to burn up tension.

Engaging in deep breathing exercises is also helpful. Gaining control of your breathing will contribute greatly to reducing anxiety. This is because deep breathing will slow your respiration and your heart rate. This, in turn, will have a calming effect. That will eventually help restore your normal sleeping patterns.

As any mental health professional can attest to, anxiety on its own is a very serious problem but when it’s accompanied by sleeplessness, the seriousness can escalate dramatically. Fortunately, there are various ways to overcome both anxiety and sleeplessness, in order to regain control of your life once again.
